The Patient Chart toolbars overview

The Patient Chart includes several toolbars to provide easy access to the charting tools. You can customize the Patient Chart to fit the needs of each user by hiding or repositioning the toolbars and adding or removing their buttons. You can also modify a toolbar's icons, or you can create a custom toolbar.

The following Patient Chart toolbars are available to you:

Dentrix Modules

You can use the Dentrix modules toolbar to open other Dentrix modules.

Family File

The Family File stores and displays important patient information, such as the patient’s name, address, phone number, health history, birth date, insurance coverage, employer, and referral information.

Ledger

Enter payments, file claims, print statements, set up financial agreements, and more.

Appointment Book

An electronic scheduler from which you can easily manage your patient appointments.

Office Manager

The Office Manager provides several tools and reports to evaluate and improve the management processes of your practice.

DXWeb

The DXWeb toolbar works in conjunction with eCentral to provide you with the tools necessary to connect your Dentrix software to the internet.

DentriXlink

Provides links to supported third-party X-ray and imaging systems you've installed on your computer; if none are installed, clicking this button displays a list of third-party digital X-ray and imaging systems that you can use with Dentrix.

Quick Letters

Combine data from your Dentrix database with the word processing abilities of Microsoft Word to help you quickly create a letter for a single patient.

Quick Labels

Quickly print a variety of labels for a selected patient.

Continuing Care

Continuing Care provides a flexible way to monitor your patients’ pending dental care and communicate information and reminders easily and effectively with groups of patients.

Send Message

Use the Send Message feature to create and send e- mail messages to patients in your Dentrix database.

Questionnaires

Questionnaires helps your office go paperless by electronically gathering and storing the same patient information that is included on new patient forms, health history updates, and other paper forms used in your office. A red check mark in the icon indicates that the patient has filled out a questionnaire.

Health History

With Health History, you can assign medical conditions and allergies to selected patients.

Prescriptions

The Prescriptions module is designed to help you quickly create prescriptions and accurately track medicines prescribed to your patients. If a prescription bottle appears in the icon, the patient has a prescription.

Office Journal

Like a journal of your daily activities, the Office Journal has two main functions: to keep a record of past events and to remind you of events in the future.

Document Center

The Document Center allows your office to become paperless by scanning, capturing, and importing many types of documents, such as patient letters, EOBs (explanation of benefits), and referral letters or images (such as patient pictures and X-rays). These documents can be attached to patients, providers, insurance carriers, and referral sources. If papers appear in the lower drawer of the icon, the patient has documents saved to the Document Center.

Treatment Manager

The Treatment Manager gives you access to vital patient information, including treatment-planned work, balance, payment information, Office Journal entries, insurance information, and so forth.

Lab Case Manager

The Lab Case Manager is directly linked to the Appointment Book and allows you to create a case for the patient, ship it to the lab, and track its progress.

DDX

Send your lab cases to labs and exchange digital information with them using Digital Dental Exchange (DDX), an online network of dental practices, labs, and third-party technologies.

eDex

Manage and quickly search lists of patients (active, inactive, or archived), employers, insurance carriers, labs, non-patients, providers, staff, referrals, and other contact you may want to remember. You can also create custom contacts and contact categories to filter the Contacts List or even locate a patient's next appointment.

Dentrix Marketplace

Opens the Dentrix Marketplace website from which you can purchase many products to enhance and expand your Dentrix platform.

Signature Manager

Click to open the Signature Manager from which you can view clinical notes and the signed status of those notes.

Resource Center

Click to open your browser and connect to the Dentrix Resource Center.

Dentrix Chat

Click to begin a chat session with Customer Support.

Patient Information

You can use the Patient Information toolbar to see information associated with your patients in the Dentrix database.

Displays any patient alerts for the selected patient.

Patient Picture

Displays the patient picture.

Patient Referrals

Displays any patient referrals.

More Information

Opens the More Information dialog box for the selected patient.

Chart Module

Using the Chart Module toolbar, you can open the Perio Chart or Treatment Planner, change the work view of the Patient Chart, make notations, print a patient's chart, paint teeth and their surfaces, and open the Dentrix Presenter.

Refresh

Refreshes the data on other computers if your practice is set up with a network of computers.

Print Patient Chart

Prints the selected patient's chart.

Edit Surface Painting

Edit or "paint" the surface of a tooth to include pits and cusps.

Primary/Permanent

Changes the Graphic Chart to display primary, permanent, or mixed dentition.

Chart Notations

Make notations directly on the patient's chart. Notations are in the color and pen you select and can be viewed or hidden at any time.

Perio

Opens the Perio Chart.

Treatment Planner

Opens the Treatment Planner.

Presenter

Opens the Dentrix Presenter.

Paint By Selected View

Specify whether teeth are painted based on progress notes in the selected view or independent of the selected view.

Paint By Selected Teeth

Specify whether progress notes appear only for the selected teeth or all teeth.

Charting View

Choose whether the charting or work chart view is the default view when the Patient Chart opens.

Arch View

Switch to the arch view so you can view treatment on the inner surfaces of the teeth.

Model View

Switch to the model view and a 3-D representation of the entire mouth.

Chart Layouts

You can use the Charts Layouts toolbar to change the appearance or view of the Patient Chart.

Displays the Full Screen Chart view.

Displays the Progress Notes for the selected patient.

Charting

You can use the Charting toolbar to create a complete clinical record for each of your patients. You can chart recommended treatment, treatment you or other providers perform, diagnostic codes, and conditions.

Select Provider

Select a different provider from the list.

Clear Selected Teeth

Clear the selections from all selected teeth in the Graphic Chart.

Procedure Code Listing

Type a procedure code, diagnostic code, or condition. Dentrix hides this icon when you post procedures using the Auto-State button.

Existing Other

Record existing work performed by a provider outside of your practice. (Used almost exclusively when charting existing work for new patients).

Existing

Record existing work performed by a provider within your practice. (Used almost exclusively when charting past work done by your office).

Treatment Plan

Enter recommended treatment for a patient.

Completed

Enter completed work and conditions for a patient.

Auto-State

Assign several procedures the same status. After you click the Auto-State button, the next button you click remains selected until you click one of the other procedure status buttons.

Procedure Codes

You can use the Procedure Codes toolbar to use the Procedure Codes panel more effectively. With it, you can expand or collapse the procedure code categories and post or clear procedure codes.

Post

Posts the selected procedure codes for the appropriate treatment to the Patient Chart.

Clear Selected Procedures

Clears the procedures you selected for a patient's treatment in the Patient Chart.

Progress Notes

The Progress Notes panel makes it easy to quickly review a patient’s chart. Using this toolbar, you can update the chart as necessary so that the patient's clinical record is always accurate.

Set Complete

Click to set a treatment-planned procedure complete.

Delete

Remove a condition, treatment plan, complete procedure, existing procedure, or existing other procedure from the Progress Notes panel. You can delete multiple items simultaneously.

Invalidate

Invalidate a procedure and remove it from the patient’s chart while leaving it in the Ledger.

Print Patient Chart

Print the Patient Chart.

Change Provider for Selected Procedures

Change providers.

Attach Dental Diagnostics to Selected Procedures

Attach dental diagnostic code to a procedure.

Default Sort

Return to the default sort order of the progress notes.

Treatment Plan

Show or hide treatment planned procedures.

Completed Work

Show or hide completed procedures.

Existing Work

Show or hide existing procedures.

Conditions

Show or hide conditions.

Exams

Show or hide exams.

Referrals

Show or hide referrals.

Clinical Notes

Show or hide clinical notes.

Expand Notes

Show or hide any notes attached to procedures, conditions, or exams.

Clinical Notes

Clinical notes are free-form notes that you can enter at any time. The toolbar provides you with the tools for creating, modifying, and managing clinical notes.

New Addendum

Append an addition to a clinical note in history.

Delete Clinical Note

Delete a clinical note.

Save Clinical Note

Save a clinical note.

Copy Clinical Note

Copy a clinical note.

Copy All Clinical Notes

Copy all of the clinical notes for the selected patient simultaneously.

Sign Clinical Note

Sign a clinical note electronically. You cannot edit a signed note.

Insert Date/Time

Insert a new date and time in a clinical note.

Change Provider for Selected Note

Change the provider for a selected clinical note.

Change Date for Selected Clinical Note

Change the date of a selected clinical note.

Print

Print a clinical note.

Cut

Cut test from a clinical note.

Copy

Copy the text of a clinical note to the Clipboard.

Paste

Paste the text of a clinical note to the Clipboard.

Check Spelling

Perform a spell check of a clinical note.

Display Font Size

Click to change the font size of a clinical note from the default Small to X-Large, Large, or Medium.

Clinical Notes Template

The Clinical Notes Template toolbar provides you with the tools to create and view clinical note templates.
