Deleting procedures

You can delete a completed, planned, or existing treatment from a patient's clinical chart or a completed procedure from a patient's ledger. However, you cannot delete a completed procedure under the following circumstances:

  • The procedure is locked because it was completed more than a specified number of days ago (according to a certain ledger option).

  • A patient or an insurance payment has been posted for the procedure. If you delete the payment or remove the charges that are applied to the procedure, you can then delete the procedure.

  • The procedure is attached to an insurance claim. If you delete the claim, you can then delete the procedure.

  • The procedure is associated with an active payment plan. If you delete the payment plan, you can then delete the procedure.

Note: If you cannot delete a procedure, you can void it (if it is not attached to a claim), re-post it correctly, and then post an offsetting adjustment if needed.

To delete a procedure

  1. Do one of the following:

      1. If the correct patient is not already selected, use the Patient Search box to access the patient's record.

        Note: You can include inactive patients in the search results by setting the Include inactive patients switch to On.

      2. On the Patient menu, under Clinical, click (or tap) Progress Notes.

        The patient's clinical record opens with the Progress Notes tab selected.

      Open the Progress Notes tab of a patient's clinical record.

    • How to get there

      1. If the correct patient is not already selected, use the Patient Search box to access the patient's record.

        Note: You can include inactive patients in the search results by setting the Include inactive patients switch to On.

      2. Do one of the following:

        • On the Patient menu, under General, click (or tap) Overview. The patient's Overview page opens. Click (or tap) the Ledger box.

        • On the Patient menu, under Financial, click (or tap) Ledger.

        The patient's Ledger page opens.

      Open a patient's Ledger page.

  2. Select a procedure.

    The Edit Procedure dialog box appears.

  3. Click (or tap) Delete.

    The Delete Procedure dialog box appears.

  4. In the box provided, enter the reason why you are deleting the procedure.

    Note: A reason is required only if a certain ledger option is enabled.

  5. Click (or tap) Delete.
