Editing recare types

You can edit the options of a recare type (except for the name of the type if the type is attached to any patient's record) as needed. For example, if a procedure (such as a prophy) is not being recognized as a recare procedure, usually this is because the procedure is either not associated with a recare type or not associated with the correct recare type, so review and edit the applicable recare type's options and its associated procedures.

Note: Changing a recare type that is attached to any patient's record does not affect the recare of any patients who already have that recare type attached to their records.

To edit a recare type

  1. On the Settings menu, under Patient Care, click (or tap) Recare.

    The Recare Setup page opens.

  2. Select a recare type.

Note: Primary recare types are bold for quick identification.

The options for editing the recare type become available.

  3. If the type is not attached to any patient's record, change a name for the recare type. Set up the other options, such as the interval and associated procedures, as needed.

    Set up the following options:

    • Type - Enter a name for the recare type. You cannot change the name if this recare type is attached to any patient's record.

    • Description - Enter a description for the recare type.

    • Interval - Enter a number, and select Weeks, Months, or Years to specify how often a patient with this recare type attached to his or her record should be seen for this type of recare.

Each time you schedule a recare appointment for a patient, the due date for the patient's next recare appointment (of the same recare type) advances by the specified interval.

    • Primary Recare Type - If an appointment is typically scheduled around this recare type (for example, a cleaning), select this checkbox. If the procedures that you associate with this recare type are typically additional services that accompany a primary type (for example, X-rays), clear this checkbox.

      Notes:

    • Procedures - Add the procedures that you want to associate with this recare type. Begin typing a procedure code or description, continue typing as needed to narrow the results, and then select the desired procedure from the list. Repeat this for as many procedures as you want to associate with this recare type. To remove a procedure, click (or tap) the Remove button next to that procedure.

If you associate a procedure with this recare type, when you complete an appointment for the specified procedure, and if the recare type is not already attached to the record of the patient for whom the appointment was scheduled, a message will appear and allow you to choose whether or not you want to attach recare to the patient's record.

Important: For a procedure to be recognized as a recare procedure (such as a prophy), it must be associated with a recare type. For the attachment of recare to patients' records to occur as expected when procedures are completed, ensure the following:

      • Every procedure that you will possibly post that is applicable to a given recare type must be associated with that recare type. For example, every prophy procedure that you use in your organization should be associated with a prophy recare type.

      • The procedures that are associated with a given recare type are applicable to that recare type. For example, only prophy procedures should be associated with a prophy recare type.

  4. Click (or tap) Save.
