Perio navigation scripts overview

Dentrix includes two types of predefined navigation scripts: perio navigation and tooth navigation.

Perio navigation scripts move the data entry cursor from tooth to tooth and arch to arch automatically. Each perio navigation script consists of four mouth navigation scripts that determine measuring point direction (forward or back) of the tooth, the side (facial or lingual) of the tooth, and mouth direction according to tooth number and arch (1-16, 16-1, 32-17, 17-32). The perio navigation scripts also calculate probing depths, clinical attachment levels, and gingival margins automatically according to the following predefined mathematical formulas:

·        CAL = PD + GM

·        PD = CAL - GM

·        GM = CAL - PD

You can also create custom scripts that do not make any calculations.

Tooth navigation scripts determine the direction and order of the data entry cursor for each tooth for the probing depth, gingival margin, clinical attachment level, and mucogingival junction measurements.

While you cannot edit or delete these predefined scripts, you can create custom scripts tailored to your charting methods. Dentrix allows you to edit and delete the navigation scripts that you create. You can also copy existing navigation scripts and import perio navigation scripts from or export them to a file.

Perio navigation scripts:

·        Dentrix Clinical Attachment Level - Use to enter clinical attachment level measurements. Uses the formula PD = CAL - GM.

·        Dentrix Default Script - Use to enter probing depth measurements. Uses the formula CAL = PD + GM.

·        Dentrix Gingival Margin - Use to enter gingival margin measurements. Uses the formula CAL = PD + GM.

·        Dentrix Mucogingival Junction - Use to enter mucogingival junction measurements. This script does not make automatic calculations.

·        Dentrix Probing Depths - Use to enter probing depth measurements. Uses the formula CAL = PD + GM.

Tooth navigation scripts (All movements are described from the provider's perspective):

·        CAL Back - Navigates the clinical attachment level from the left, to the center, to the right surfaces of each tooth.

·        CAL Forward - Navigates the clinical attachment level from the right, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

·        GM Back - Navigates the gingival margin from the left, to the center, to the right surfaces of each tooth.

·        GM Forward - Navigates the gingival margin from the right, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

·        MGJ Back - Navigates the mucogingival junction from the left, to the center, to the right surfaces of each tooth.

·        MGJ Forward - Navigates the mucogingival junction from the right, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

·        PD Back - Navigates the probing depth from the left, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

·        PD Forward - Navigates the probing depth from the right, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.
