Adding perio navigation scripts

The Perio Chart provides you with five predefined navigation scripts. You cannot delete or alter these scripts; however, since periodontal exam methods differ from provider to provider, you can add custom scripts or copy the default scripts, which you can then edit, to accommodate these differences. There is no restriction on the number of scripts that you can add.

To add a perio navigation script

1.   In the Perio Chart, click File, and then click Entry Settings Setup.

The Entry Settings Setup dialog box appears.

2.   Click Add.

The Add Mouth Navigation Setup dialog box appears.

3.   Type the name of the script that you want to add in the Name text box, and then press the TAB key.

Note: Script names must be unique.

4.   Select one of the following options from the Automatic Calculation list.

·        CAL = PD + GM - Select to enter the probing depth and gingival margin. Once you enter these measurements, Dentrix calculates the clinical attachment level automatically.

·        GM = CAL + PD - Select to enter the clinical attachment level and probing depth. Once you enter these measurements, Dentrix calculates the gingival margin automatically.

·        PD = CAL + GM - Select to enter the clinical attachment level and gingival margin. Once you enter these measurements, Dentrix calculates the probing depth automatically.

·        No Calculation - Select if you do not want to perform a calculation.

Note: The probing depth, gingival margin, and clinical attachment level (recession) measurements have a mathematical relationship. When you have any two of the measurements, you can calculate the third. The default calculation for a new script is CAL = PD + GM. The formula you select must match the navigation path you select. For example, if you choose to calculate the CAL, select the CAL Back and CAL Forward navigation paths.

5.   From the Tooth Navigation list, select one of the following navigation paths:

·        CAL Back - Navigates the clinical attachment level from the left, to the center, to the right surfaces of each tooth.

·        CAL Forward - Navigates the clinical attachment level from the right, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

·        GM Back - Navigates the gingival margin from the left, to the center, to the right surfaces of each tooth.

·        GM Forward - Navigates the gingival margin from the right, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

·        MGJ Back - Navigates the mucogingival junction from the left, to the center, to the right surfaces of each tooth.

·        MGJ Forward - Navigates the mucogingival junction from the right, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

·        PD Back - Navigates the probing depth from the left, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

·        PD Forward - Navigates the probing depth from the right, to the center, to the left surfaces of each tooth.

Note: The terms left and right refer to the distal and mesial surfaces from the provider's perspective. To add new tooth navigation scripts, see Adding new tooth navigation scripts.

6.   From the Side of Tooth list, select Facial or Lingual to specify the side of the tooth that this portion of the script applies to.

7.   Under Mouth Navigation, type the tooth range that the script applies to, and then press the Tab key.

Note: You can list tooth numbers separately. If you do, separate the tooth numbers by commas. If you enter a range, use a hyphen to separate the numbers.

8.   To add the script to the script list, click Add.

9.   Select a second navigation path from the Tooth Navigation list. For example, if you selected CAL Forward in step 5, now select CAL Back.

10. From the Side of Tooth list, select the side opposite the one you selected in step 6. For example, if you selected Facial, now select Lingual.

11. Under Mouth Navigation, type the appropriate sequence or tooth range, press the Tab key, and then click OK to save the script.

The script is added to the Perio Navigation Scripts list.
