Starting and stopping the monitor

To begin monitoring a patient's vital signs using the Vital Signs Monitor Client, you first need to properly attach the monitor leads and/or sensors to the patient and then start the vital signs monitor. For instructions on how to attach the monitor leads and sensors to the patient, refer to the documentation that came with your monitor. The leads and sensors allow you to monitor patient vital signs as follows:

·        Pulse oximeter - Monitors heart rate (HR) and oxygen levels in the blood (SpO2)

·        Blood pressure cuff - Monitors blood pressure

·        Electrocardiogram (ECG) - Monitors heart rate (HR) and respiration

To start the vital signs monitor

1.   Make sure your vital signs monitor is powered on. (It may take several seconds for it to power on and be ready to monitor vital signs.)

2.   Once the patient is admitted and the leads and/or sensors are attached to the patient, from the Monitor menu, click Start.

The Vital Signs Monitor Client will begin receiving patient vital signs data within a few seconds.

When you're ready to stop recording the patient's vital signs, you need to stop the monitor.

Note: The vital signs are automatically recorded on the Vital Signs tab in the Electronic Health Record for the patient. If they are not showing up, you may need to close and reopen the Electronic Health Record for the patient and click Refresh.

To stop the Vital Signs monitor

1.   From the Monitor menu, click Stop.
