Updating medical history

You can enter and update notes regarding a patient's medical history.

To update a patient's medical history

On the Medical History/Allergies/Alerts panel of a patient's Patient Information Center, in the Medical History section, do any of the following:

·        In the Medical History field, type any significant medical history. This field has a limit of 32,000 characters.

Tip: If you want to change or add to the text, click any word in the field to highlight it, and then press the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the text cursor to the desired position.

·        Click Open to open the Medical History Codes window, and then select and paste in a medical history code.

Tip: You can make a medical history code into an allergy to transfer the code from the Medical History to the Allergies section for all patients who have that medical history code attached to their records.

·        In the Med Hx. Update box, enter the date that the patient's medical history was last updated. However, when a medical history form is completed or updated, the date may be updated automatically. The background of the box will turn yellow, and the text will blink (and an alert will appear) when the patient's medical history needs to be updated, according to the medical history update preference.

If the patient has any medical history entered, a red, blinking outline appears around the field.

To manage medical history codes

From the Medical History Codes window, do any of the following:

·        To add a code, click New. Type a Code and Comments. Then, click OK.

·        To edit an existing code, select a code, and then click Edit. Change the Code and Comments as needed. Then, click OK.

·        To delete a code, select a code, and then click Delete. On the confirmation message that appears, click Yes. This does not affect patients who have the deleted code attached to their records, but the code is no longer available for selection for any patient.
