The Patient Chart toolbars overview
The Patient Chart includes several toolbars to provide easy access to the charting tools. You can customize the Patient Chart to fit the needs of each user by hiding or repositioning the toolbars and adding or removing their buttons. You can also modify a toolbar's icons, or you can create a custom toolbar.
The following Patient Chart toolbars are available to you:

Dentrix Modules
You can open other Dentrix modules from the Dentrix modules toolbar.

Family File |
Click to store and display important patient information, such as the patient’s name, address, phone number, medical alerts, birth date, insurance coverage, employer, and referral information. |

Ledger |
Click to enter payments, file claims, print statements, set up financial agreements, and more. |

Appointment Book |
Click to manage your patient appointments electronically. |

Office Manager |
Click to use several tools and reports to evaluate and improve the management processes of your practice. |

Click to link to supported third-party X-ray and imaging systems you've installed on your computer; if none are installed, clicking this button displays a list of third-party digital X-ray and imaging systems that you can use with Dentrix. |

Quick Letters |
Click to combine data from your Dentrix database with the word processing abilities of Microsoft Word to create a letter for a single patient. |

Quick Labels |
Click to print a variety of labels for the selected patient. |
|
Continuing Care |
Click to monitor your patients’ pending dental care and communicate information and reminders with groups of patients. |
|
Send Message |
Click to create and send e-mail messages to patients in your Dentrix database. |
|
Questionnaires |
Click to gather and store the same patient information electronically that is included on new patient forms, health history updates, and other paper forms used in your office. |

Health History |
Click to assign medical conditions and allergies to selected patients. The icon is red when you assign a medical condition or allergy to a patient. |
|
Prescriptions |
Click to create prescriptions and accurately track medicines prescribed to your patients. |
|
Office Journal |
Click to keep a record of past events and to remind you of events in the future. |
|
Document Center |
Click to scan, capture, and import many types of documents, such as patient letters, EOBs (explanation of benefits), and referral letters or images (such as patient pictures and X-rays). You can attach these documents to patients, providers, insurance carriers, and referral sources. |

Treatment Manager |
Click to access vital patient information, including treatment-planned work, balance, payment information, Office Journal entries, insurance information, and so forth. |
|
Lab Case Manager |
Click to create a lab case for the patient, ship it to the lab, and track its progress. The Lab Case Manager is directly linked to the Appointment Book. |
|
DDX |
Click to send your lab cases to labs and exchange digital information with them using Digital Dental Exchange (DDX), a secure, online network of dental practices, labs, and third-party technologies. |

eDex |
Click to manage and search lists of patients (active, inactive, or archived), employers, insurance carriers, labs, non-patients, providers, staff, referrals, and other contact you may want to remember. You can also create custom contacts and contact categories to filter the Contacts List or even locate a patient's next appointment. |

Click to open the Dentrix Marketplace website from which you can purchase many products to enhance and expand your Dentrix platform. |
Patient Information
Use the Patient Information toolbar to see information associated with your patients in the Dentrix database.

Chart Module
Using the Chart Module toolbar, you can open the Perio Chart or Treatment Planner, change the work view of the Patient Chart, make notations, print a patient's chart, paint teeth and their surfaces, and open the Dentrix Presenter.

Click to refresh the data on other computers if your practice is set up with a network of computers. |

Click to print the selected patient's chart. |

Click to edit or “paint” the surface of a tooth to include pits and cusps. |

Click to change the Graphic Chart to display primary, permanent, or mixed dentition. |

Click to make notations directly on the patient's chart. Notations are in the colour and pen you select and can be viewed or hidden at any time. |

Click to open the Perio Chart. |

Treatment Planner |
Click to open the Treatment Planner. |

Presenter |
Click to open the Dentrix Presenter. |

Click to specify whether teeth are painted based on progress notes in the selected view or independent of the selected view. |

Click to specify whether progress notes appear only for the selected teeth or all teeth. |

Click to choose whether the charting or work chart view is the default view when the Patient Chart opens. |
||
Click to switch to the arch view so you can view treatment on the inner surfaces of the teeth. |
||
Click to switch to the model view and a 3-D representation of the entire mouth. |
Chart Layouts
With the Charts Layouts toolbar, you can change the appearance or view of the Patient Chart.

Charting
Using the Charting toolbar, you can create a complete clinical record for each of your patients. You can chart recommended treatment, treatment you or other providers perform, diagnostic codes, and conditions.

Click to select a different provider from the list. |

Click to clear the selections from all selected teeth in the Graphic Chart. |

Click to type a procedure code, diagnostic code, or condition. Dentrix hides this icon when you post procedures using the Auto-State button. |

Click to record existing work performed by a provider outside of your practice. (Used almost exclusively when charting existing work for new patients). |
||
Click to record existing work performed by a provider within your practice. (Used almost exclusively when charting past work done by your office). |
||
Click to enter recommended treatment for a patient. |
||
Click to enter completed work and conditions for a patient. |
||
Click to quickly assign several procedures the same status. After you click the Auto-State button, the next button you click remains selected until you click one of the other procedure status buttons. |
Procedure Codes
You can use the Procedure Codes toolbar to expand or collapse the procedure code categories and post or clear procedure codes.

Progress Notes
You can use the Progress Notes panel to quickly review a patient’s chart. You can use the toolbar to update the chart as necessary so that the patient's clinical record is always accurate.

Click to indicate that you completed a treatment-planned procedure. |

Delete |
Click to remove a condition, treatment plan, complete procedure, existing procedure, or existing other procedure from the Progress Notes panel. You can delete multiple items simultaneously. |

Click to invalidate a procedure and remove it from the patient’s chart while leaving it in the Ledger. |

Click to print the Patient Chart. |

Click to change providers. |

Click to return to the default sort order of the progress notes. |

Clinical Notes
Clinical notes are free-form notes that you can enter at any time. The toolbar provides you with the tools for creating, modifying, and managing clinical notes.

The Clinical Notes Template toolbar provides you with the tools to create and view clinical note templates.
