An Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) document is a data file your practice receives electronically from an insurance carrier. The file, imported directly into Dentrix, includes payment information and adjustments about claims your office submitted to the carrier. An ERA eliminates the need for a hard-copy Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to be manually keyed in to Dentrix. Thus, an ERA reduces labor-intensive bookkeeping, increases cash flow, and improves data accuracy!

Key Information
ERA transmissions do not deposit funds into your practice's bank account nor issue a check or a credit card payment, as they only list the payment amounts the carrier has agreed to pay. Consequently, it's best practice to only post ERA claim information into Dentrix after verifying that the payment has been received and deposited.
An ERA differs from an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), which is not part of ERA registration nor enrollment, and Henry Schein One (HS1) does not provide an EFT service. To establish an EFT service with a carrier, contact the carrier directly.
