Referring patients out to a co-therapist

You can add or edit an outbound referral to a co-therapist.

To add or edit a referral

1.   On the General tab, locate the Provider and Referral section.

2.   If the appropriate co-therapist is not already selected, next to Co-therapist 1 or Co-therapist 2, double-click the field to search for and paste in the name of the co-therapist whom the patient is being referred to.

3.   Next to Co-therapist 1 or Co-therapist 2, click the Refer Out button .

The Referrals To window appears.

4.   Do one of the following:

·        To add an item, click Add.

·        To edit and existing item, select an item, and then click Edit.

The Refer Patient Out To dialog box appears.

5.   Set up the following options:

·        Provider - Select the provider.

·        Dates:

·        Date of Referral - The default date is the date the outbound referral is being created. You can type a different date if desired.

·        Referral Note Sent - This date is the date the note for the outbound referral is sent. You can click the Remove button to clear any previous entry.

·        First Appointment Date - The date is the date of the patient's first appointment at your office. You can click the Remove button to clear any previous entry.

·        Expected Back - This date is the date when the patient should return to the office. A reminder will be created if a date has been entered in the Expected Back field. You can click the Remove button to clear any previous entry.

·        Status Report Received - This date is the date the status report is received. You can click the Remove button to clear any previous entry.

·        Date Returned - This date is the date the patient returns to your office. You can click the Remove button to clear any previous entry.

·        Status:

·        Request Report - Select this check box to generate a status report.

·        Request Call - Select this check box to specify that a reminder call is necessary.

·        Referral Note Needed - Select this check box to specify that a note for the referral is necessary.

·        Need to Contact Office for Return Visit - Select this check box to specify that the patient is going to call your office to schedule a return visit.

·        Halt Statements until Date Returned -  Select this check box to not send statements to the patient until the date entered in the Date Returned field. This check box is available only if you are adding an outbound referral, You cannot clear or select this check box after you click OK.

·        Comments - Type any comment for the outbound referral.

·        Instructions:

·        Teeth/Areas - The tooth numbers or areas to be treated.

·        Services Requested - The treatment the doctor to whom the patient is being referred should perform.

·        Concerns - Concerns regarding the patient or treatment.

·        Special Instructions - Additional remarks or instructions for the outbound referral.

·        Treatment Done - Notes about the treatment your office has already done that is relevant to the outbound referral.

·        Treatment Remaining - Notes about the treatment, relevant to the outbound referral, your office will perform when the patient being referred returns to your office.

·        Reasons - Select one of the user-defined reasons you are referring the patient to a co-therapist.

·        Linked Marker - Select a linked marker (a maker to associate with the outbound referral). The Linked Marker list is available only if you are adding an outbound referral and cannot be changed once you click OK.

6.   Click OK.

Note: With a certain preference setting turned on, a copy of the referral slip is added to the patient's Document Center automatically.
