Adding explosion codes

An explosion code is a group of procedure codes that are usually scheduled, completed, or recommended at the same time. You can use explosion codes to post many procedures simultaneously. For example, a root canal appointment may consist of several procedures, each with its own procedure time and fee. Instead of posting or schedule each of these procedures individually, you can use an explosion code to group them together, thus saving considerable time in posting and scheduling. To learn more, click Editing explosion codes and/or Deleting explosion codes.

Note: Explosion codes appear in the Enter Procedure dialog box in the Accounts module for easy selection. You can also find a list of all explosion codes whenever you select procedure codes. They appear in the explosion codes procedure category.

To add an explosion code

1.   In the Patient Banner, click the Settings button.

The Settings dialog box appears.

2.   In the Practice Setup list, click Explosion-Code Setup.

The Explosion Code List dialog box appears.

3.   Click New.

The Explosion Code Editor dialog box appears.

4.   Do the following:

·        Type a description of up to 31 characters of the explosion code.

·        Type a three-digit alphanumeric code that represents the code in the Explosion field.

·        Type a nine-digit abbreviated description of the explosion code.

5.   From the Appointment Type list, select one of the following:

·        General

·        High Production

·        Medium Production

·        Low Production.

6.   Do the following:

·        Under Type, select Bridge if the explosion code represents a bridge; otherwise, select Standard.

·        In the Procedure Time field, set the length of time required to complete this group of procedures.

7.   Click Add.

The Add Code dialog box appears.

a.   Select one of the following:

·         ADA Code  – Type the procedure code in the text box or click the search button.

The Procedure Codes dialog box appears.

·        Dental Diagnostic Code – Type the diagnostic code in the text box or click the search button.

The Dental Diagnostic Codes dialog box appears.

b.   Select a category, and then select the procedure or diagnostic code that you want to add from the respective dialog box.

c.   Click OK.

d.   Repeat step 7 to add additional procedure/diagnostic codes.

Note: An explosion code may consist of one or more procedures that require a tooth number or range. These procedures are flagged with an asterisk ( * ) in the Procedure Code List. When the explosion code is used in the Accounts module, the procedure is also flagged so that you can add a tooth number or range. A procedure that requires a tooth number or range will not be posted with the explosion code from the Schedule when the explosion code is set complete.

8.   If you plan to use this explosion code, do not select Disable Explosion Code.

Disabling the explosion code removes it from the active explosion code list without deleting it.

9.   To save your changes, click OK.
