Entering taxes and discounts

Once you set up the tax and discount types, you can calculate and apply them based on the current date's charges or a specified procedure date. You can also calculate them for just one patient or an entire family. You must assign each tax type to a specific procedure code or adjustment type and each discount type to a specific adjustment type.

To enter taxes and discounts

1.   In the Accounts toolbar, click Tax/Discount.

The Enter Tax/Discount dialog box appears.

 

2.   If necessary, change the date. The date defaults to the current date.

Note: If no procedures are posted on the date you selected, an error message appears stating that you cannot apply a tax or discount.

3.   Select the Tax/Discount type that you want to apply.

4.   Under Calculate for, click one of the following:

·        Current Patient

·        All Family Members

·        Selected Procedures

5.   Select the provider that the tax or discount type attaches to.

6.   Add a Note to clarify the tax or discount type for this patient or family.

7.   To apply the tax or discount type, click OK.

The tax or discount appears as a separate line in the Accounts module.

Note: If you calculated the tax or discount for all family members, it appears in the guarantor's transaction log. If you calculated the tax or discount for the current patient, it appears in that patient’s transaction log. Once you apply a tax/discount type, you can delete or edit it like any other transaction.
