Dentrix Enterprise offers a great deal of flexibility when you are creating a perio exam. You can enter only the most basic information, such as pocket depths, or, if you want to do a more comprehensive exam, almost every perio classification and measurement is available to be charted and noted.
Note: Starting a new perio exam requires the "Perio Chart, Add Exam" security right.
To start a new perio exam
Do one of the following:
When you open Perio Chart, if no perio exams exist, a new exam starts automatically. The data chart is blank so you can begin entering measurements for the exam.
When you open Perio Chart, if a perio exam for a previous date exists, a new exam starts automatically. The data chart contains the measurements from the last exam so you can save time by entering only the measurements that have changed since the last exam.
If Perio Chart is open, and if you are viewing a past exam or today's exam, on the File menu, click New Exam.
Note: The Perio Chart provider is the provider who is selected in Chart.
If you clicked New Exam on the File menu in step 1, and if applicable, do one of the following:
If the Password - Perio Chart, Add Exam dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Perio Chart, Add Exam" task. Do one of the following:
If your user account has been granted the "Perio Chart, Add Exam" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.
If your user account has not been granted the "Perio Chart, Add Exam" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can start a perio exam this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.
If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Perio Chart, Add Exam" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can start a perio exam this one time, do the following:
On the message, click Yes.
In the Password - Perio Chart, Add Exam dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.
If you clicked New Exam on the File menu in step 1, and a perio exam for today already exists, the Create New Perio Chart dialog box appears so you can start an exam for a past date.
Do the following:
To specify the date of the exam, do one of the following:
Enter a date in a mm/dd/yyyy format.
To select a date, do the following:
Click
the search button 
.
The Select Date dialog box appears.
Scroll to the correct month (if it is not already being viewed).
Click the correct day.
Click OK.
Click OK.
To select the script that you want to use for charting the exam, on the Options menu, point to Select Script, and then click an option.
Notes:
An empty navigation script is not available for selection, and the text "(blank)" appears next to that script.
The selected script will be selected by default for all subsequent exams that you start until you select a different script either from the Options menu or in the Perio Entry Setup dialog box. The script selection is saved per user.
Begin entering perio measurements.
Note: If the Perio Chart provider was changed automatically, if you close Perio Chart after having started a new exam without saving it, a message regarding the provider being changed automatically appears.
