Dürr VistaScan Scanner (with VisionX Connect) Setup Guide

This guide describes the installation and setup of the Dürr VistaScan phosphor plate scanner for use with Dentrix Ascend Imaging via VisionX Connect.

Note: This guide has been created with Dürr Dental North American distribution, an OEM partner of Air Techniques, which is the manufacturer of the ScanX Swift phosphor plate scanner. For this reason, screenshots in this guide reference the ScanX Swift scanner; however, the setup for the VistaScan scanner should be the same.

Overview

Dentrix Ascend Imaging supports the acquisition of intraoral images from the VistaScan phosphor plate scanner on a computer running the Windows operating system. Drivers for the VistaScan scanner must be installed on each computer that the scanner will be connected to.

Note: Prior to the installation of the VistaScan scanner, the acquisition agent application must be installed on each computer that will acquire images. Refer to Setting up the acquisition agent for instructions on downloading and installing the acquisition agent.

Installation

To install VisionX, do the following:

  1. Download and Install VisionX from the Air Techniques website (http://www.airtechniques.com/drivers/).

    Note: The version of VisionX to install depends on the computer's version of the Windows operating system. For example, as of writing this guide, version 2.4.13 is not intended for use with Windows 11, so you must install version 3.0.22 of VisionX. If you are unsure of which version of Vision X is required or are unfamiliar with the VisionX installation, reach out to Air Techniques Support for assistance.

  2. Double-click the VisionX icon to open the program.

  3. Select Configuration.

  4. Select Devices.

    Note: If you do not see your device in the list, click Update (at the bottom) to refresh the list. Also, make sure that the device is turned on and connected either by USB or on the network.

  5. When you see your device, click Xray station settings in the Use in VisionX Connect column.

  6. Select the checkbox of each device you want to use in Dentrix Ascend Imaging.

  7. Select Interfaces.

  8. Scroll to the VisionX Connect section, and click Connect settings.

  9. For a minimal VisionX Connect look, select the Use minimal VisionX Connect interface checkbox.

Testing

The VistaScan scanner is now functional in Dentrix Ascend Imaging. To acquire a test image, do the following:

  1. In the Imaging Procedures list, select Bitewing Single Image.

  2. Select any teeth for the test.

  3. On the Acquisition Method for this imaging exam menu, select Dürr VistaScan.

  4. Click Proceed with Acquisition.

  5. Click Start Acquisition. Your VistaScan device will become ready to scan a plate.

  6. When the acquisition starts, make sure the correct device and desired resolution are selected, and then start scanning the plate.

  7. After the plate is scanned, click End Acquisition to transfer the image to Dentrix Ascend Imaging.

Troubleshooting

To confirm that the VistaScan device driver is loaded and recognized by Windows, do the following:

  1. Open Device Manager.

  2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers category.

  3. Right-click VistaScan, and then select Properties.

  4. Make sure "This device is working properly" appears.
