Adding and editing adjustment codes
Adjustment codes describe the reasons for adjustments to a patient's balance. You can use adjustment codes to track any changes, positive or negative, made to a patient balance. You can add and edit adjustment codes as needed.
To add or edit an adjustment code
1. From the File menu, point to Codes and Lists > Posting, and then click Adjustment Codes.
The Adjustment Codes window appears.
Tip: To see any inactive adjustment codes, select Show inactives. Adjustment codes are defined as active or inactive in the Edit Adjustment Code dialog box (see below).
2. Do one of the following:
· To add an adjustment code, click Add.
· To edit an existing adjustment code, select an adjustment code, and then click Edit.
The Edit Adjustment Code dialog box appears.
3. Set up the following options:
· ID - Type the ID number for the adjustment code. This field has a limit of three characters (1-999).
· Active - When this field is not selected, the adjustments are inactive and don’t appear in drop-down menu (unless the Show inactives option is selected). By default, this option is selected.
· Name - Type a name for the adjustment code. This field has a limit of 35 characters.
· Exclude from allocations - Select this check box to exclude this adjustment code from allocations.
· Allow Carrier Name selection for check printing - For an insurance refund adjustment type, select this check box to allow a carrier to be selected as the "pay to" entity for a refund check when this adjustment is posted.
4. Click OK.
