Before the installation

Before beginning the installation of OMSVision on your office computers, you should meet the following prerequisites:

Have the installation DVD – In order to install, you will need the installation disc labeled OMSVision.

Check the System Requirements – Make sure your computers and other hardware meet the minimum system requirements so that OMSVision can perform well. The complete, up-to-date system requirements are available online at OMSVision.com.

Configure your network – It is critical that your network be configured properly by a network technician prior to installing OMSVision. In addition, if you are connecting multiple sites, make sure that you use a WAN (Wide Area Network) specialist.

Map a network drive – For each workstation, you must have a mapped network drive ("F" is recommended but not required) to the directory on the server that contains the dvwin folder so that the workstations can properly access the dv.ini file. In other words, when accessing the network drive from a workstation, the dvwin folder must be one level down from the root. The share on the server must allow full read/write access. For help with mapping network drives, contact your network administrator.

The dv.ini file contains many of your system preferences. If mapping is not done properly, a connection to the database still occurs, but OMSVision will always warn you that it cannot locate the preferences and then will display the Preferences dialog box. In addition, it will appear that OMSVision no longer knows the name of your practice, among other abnormalities.

Have remote access software – Have PC Anywhere, LogMeIn, or Microsoft’s Remote Desktop installed in order for support technicians to remotely access your office computers via a public IP address over TCP/IP.

Copy the setup (optional) – You can copy the setup/upgrade file from the installation DVD into a shared directory on the server’s hard drive. Once the server installation is complete, you can browse to that setup file from each workstation to install OMSVision on those computers without having to take the DVD from computer to computer.
