Posting diagnostic codes

Since the Chart is a clinical record of patient care, it must be completely accurate. To maintain an accurate clinical record, you can attach diagnostic codes to procedures using the Chart toolbar.

Notes:

·        Easy Dental does not come pre-loaded with diagnostic codes. You must add these codes manually. The American Dental Association provides reference books containing the codes and their descriptions. Please contact your local chapter of the ADA for assistance.

·        While you can post the Systemized Nomenclature of Dentistry (SNODENT) diagnostic codes using the following steps, you cannot post ICD-9-CM or ICD-10-CM codes using these steps. The SNODENT diagnostic codes are maintained by and available for purchase from the American Dental Association.

To post a diagnostic code

1.   In the Chart toolbar, click Dental Diagnosis, and then click Post To Patient Chart.

The Select Procedure Code dialog box appears.

2.   Select the appropriate code from the list, and then click OK.

The code appears in the Proc text box.

Note: If the code requires additional information, such as surfaces or quadrants, the Surface Selection dialog box appears. Select the appropriate options, click Add, and then click OK.

3.   Click the status button appropriate to the code that you are charting (Complete, TX Plan, or Existing).

The code is posted to progress notes with a status of CON, and if applicable, marks the selected tooth with a symbol appropriate to the code in the graphic chart.
