Customizing default document templates

You can customize Dentrix Enterprise letters; however, it does require a knowledge of the Microsoft Word® word processing software. If you are unfamiliar with word processing, spend some time learning how to use Microsoft Word before attempting to customize Dentrix Enterprise letters.

To customize a default document template

In Microsoft Word, browse to the directory where your document templates are stored (usually the DXOne\Doc directory on the file server) and open the template that you want to customize (DTXLM*.doc, where * represents a number).

Note: To make sure that you are accessing the right document directory, in Office Manager, expand the Maintenance menu, point to Practice Setup, click Preferences, and then select the Paths tab. The Document Path box indicates where your document templates are saved. Make sure you work from that directory any time you want to modify templates.

You can edit or change the body of the letter.

Important: It is strongly recommended that you do not delete or edit any of the merge field codes (all information in brackets). If you do alter these codes, the letter merge from Dentrix Enterprise may not function properly.

When you are finished editing, save the changes. Do not change the name of the letter unless you want to keep the original unchanged and are saving your new version of the letter as a new letter.
