Customizing security rights

You can customize a user's rights whether or not those rights were assigned to that user individually or due to being part of a group.

Note: Customizing security rights requires the "Password Administration" security right.

To customize a user's rights

In the Security Rights Setup dialog box, in the Select User list, select a user.

From the Clinic selected list, select the clinic that you want to customize rights for.

To show active and inactive users or show only active users in the Select User list, select or clear the List Inactive checkbox.

Under Preview, click Edit Rights.

The Edit User Rights dialog box appears.

If you want to customize rights for a clinic other than the one selected in the Select Clinic list, select a different clinic. When the dialog box opens initially, by default, the selected clinic is the one that you selected in step 2.

Change the assigned rights as needed by selecting and/or clearing the desired checkboxes:

If the checkbox of a category has a black X, the rights in that category are assigned by a security group. All the checkboxes of the rights in that category have gray backgrounds.

If you clear all the checkboxes in a category, the checkboxes of the rights in that category will still have gray backgrounds, and if you then select a checkbox, the background stays gray.

If the checkbox of a category has a gray X, the rights in that category are assigned by a security group. The checkboxes of only the rights in that category that are assigned to the user have gray backgrounds. The check boxes of unassigned rights are clear.

If the checkbox of a category has a black check mark, the rights in that category are not assigned by a security group. All the checkboxes of the rights in that category are selected.

If the checkbox of a category has a gray check mark, the rights in that category are not assigned by a group. The checkboxes of only the rights in that category that are assigned to the user are selected. The checkboxes of unassigned rights are clear.

If you clear all the checkboxes in a category, the category checkbox will be cleared automatically.

Notes:

When first opened, the security options list is "collapsed," thus hiding the detailed security options for each category. To expand the list and view all security options, click Expand List (clicking Collapse List will collapse the entire list). You can also click the plus (+) sign next a certain category to see the detailed rights (clicking the minus (-) sign will collapse that category).

To enable all rights for the selected user, click Select All. To disable all rights for the selected user, click Remove All.

Dentrix Enterprise requires that you to set up at least one user with "Password Administration" rights (by selecting the Password Administration checkbox in the Administration category). Dentrix Enterprise will not allow you to exit this dialog box unless at least one user is given Password Administration rights.

Click OK.
