Posting partial medical insurance payments

At times, a medical insurance carrier will send partial payment for a medical insurance claim while waiting for more information on certain procedures. You can do either of the following in this situation:

Split the claim into two separate claims - Split the claim into two separate claims, post a full payment for the first claim now, and then post a full payment for the second claim later.

Post multiple payments to the claim - Post a partial payment for the claim now, and then post an additional payment for the claim later.

Notes:

Viewing claims to post an insurance payment requires the "Insurance Claims, Open" security right.

Posting insurance payments requires the "Ins Payments, Enter" security right.

To post multiple partial payments for a medical insurance claim

Post an insurance payment for a medical insurance claim with a Sent status.

To post an additional insurance payment, do the following:

With a patient selected in Ledger, double-click the medical insurance claim, which has a Received status.

If applicable, do one of the following:

If the Password - Insurance Claims, Open dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Insurance Claims, Open" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Insurance Claims, Open" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Insurance Claims, Open" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can view a claim this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Insurance Claims, Open" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can view a claim this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Insurance Claims, Open dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

The insurance claim window opens.

On the Enter Payment menu, click Enter Additional Payment.

If applicable, do one of the following:

If the Password - Ins Payments, Enter dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Ins Payments, Enter" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Ins Payments, Enter" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Ins Payments, Enter" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can enter an additional insurance payment this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

Click OK/Post.
