A patient note can include any information you want to be available internally in your office, such as the patient's hobbies, interests, financial arrangements, or any other notes that may be useful to your practice. You can add and edit a patient note as needed.

Patient notes apply to an individual patient, and you can view them only from the patient's appointment information in Appointment Book, from the patient's Family File, or on the patient notes report.
Adding or editing a patient note requires the "Patient Notes, Modify" security right.
To add or edit a patient note
With a patient selected in Family File, double-click the Patient Notes block.
If applicable, do one of the following:
If the Password - Patient Notes, Modify dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Patient Notes, Modify" task. Do one of the following:
If your user account has been granted the "Patient Notes, Modify" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.
If your user account has not been granted the "Patient Notes, Modify" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can modify patient notes this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.
If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Patient Notes, Modify" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can modify patient notes this one time, do the following:
On the message, click Yes.
In the Password - Patient Notes, Modify dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.
The Patient Note dialog box appears.
In the box, enter, delete, or change text.
Notes:
To add a date stamp to the note where the text cursor is currently positioned in the box, click Insert Dateline.
To insert a blank line or start a new line in the box, while pressing Ctrl, press Enter.
To check the spelling of the note text, click the Check Spelling button (this button is available only if a certain preference setting is enabled).
A patient note can be up to 4,000 characters long.
To clear the entire patient note, click Clear.
Click OK.
