As you schedule and reschedule a patient for a specific type of continuing care (such as an exam, cleaning, or X-rays) with the appropriate continuing care flag assigned to it, Dentrix Enterprise automatically assigns that continuing care type to the patient and updates it accordingly. However, you can assign a continuing care type to a patient's record manually in certain circumstances, such as to get a patient's record ready before his or her appointment or to correct a continuing care type not being attached to a patient's record after his or her appointment.
Note: Accessing and setting a patient's continuing care require the "Continuing Care, Edit Patients" security right.
To assign a continuing care type to a patient
With a patient selected in Family File, double-click the Cont. Care block.
If applicable, do one of the following:
If the Password - Continuing Care, Edit Patients dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Continuing Care, Edit Patients" task. Do one of the following:
If your user account has been granted the "Continuing Care, Edit Patients" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.
If your user account has not been granted the "Continuing Care, Edit Patients" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can access a patient's continuing care this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.
If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Continuing Care, Edit Patients" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can access a patient's continuing care this one time, do the following:
On the message, click Yes.
In the Password - Continuing Care, Edit Patients dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.
The Patient Continuing Care dialog box appears.
Note: For each continuing care type that has been set for the patient, the Date column contains a date.
Select the continuing care type that you want to set.
Click Set.
Note: If the selected continuing care type is already set for the patient, this button is labeled "Edit."
If applicable, do one of the following:
If the Password - Continuing Care, Edit Patients dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Continuing Care, Edit Patients" task. Do one of the following:

The Set Continuing Care dialog box appears.
Set up the following options:
Due Date - The date that the patient is due for his or her next continuing care visit of this type. By default, Dentrix Enterprise inserts a date, relative to today's date, according to the interval that has been defined for this continuing care type, but you can change the due date and interval. Do one the following:
To change the due date but not the interval, in the box, enter the correct due date (in a mm/dd/yyyy format).
Notes:
To confirm the interval settings, you can click the search button to open the Set Interval dialog box.

To change the due date and the interval, do the following:
Click the search button .
The Set Interval dialog box appears.
Set up the following options:
Interval - To specify the amount of time that may elapse between the patient's continuing care visits of this type, enter a number in the box, select Days, Weeks, Months, or Years from the list, and select the +1 Day checkbox if you need to extend the interval an extra day to prevent insurance billing problems for patients with strict interval requirements.
New Due Date - Dentrix Enterprise automatically calculates and inserts the due date, relative to today's date, according to the specified interval, but you can enter a different date (in a mm/dd/yyyy format).

Click OK.
Prior Treatment Date - The date of the patient's most recent continuing care visit of this type. In the box, enter the correct date (in a mm/dd/yyyy format).
Notes:
Dentrix Enterprise updates this date automatically when the patient is seen for an appointment with this continuing care type attached.

Status - The status of this continuing care type for this patient. Statuses are relevant primarily when you generate continuing care lists. Do one of the following:
To not assign a status, leave [None] selected.
To assign a status, select one of the statuses from the list.
Note: For details about setting up continuing care status options, see the topic about adding continuing care statuses to the practice definitions.
Provider - The provider of appointments for this continuing care type. Select one of the following options:
Prov1 - The patient's primary provider.
Prov2 - The patient's secondary provider.
Default Appt. Time - The amount of time that this patient will need for appointments with this continuing care type attached. To specify the number of scheduling units and the appointment time pattern, do the following:
Select the Time? checkbox.
The Appointment Time Pattern dialog box appears.
Do any of the following:
Drag the slider left or right to decrease or increase the time.
Click the left arrow button to decrease the time one appointment unit at a time (the length is determined by the clinic's time block size).
Click the right arrow button to increase the time one appointment unit at a time (the length is determined by the clinic's time block size).
Click between the slider and the left arrow to decrease the time 30 minutes at a time.
Click between the slider and the right arrow to increase the time 30 minutes at a time.
To specify a time pattern, for each box below the slider bar, click the box as needed to switch between chair (blank), assistant (/), and provider (X) time.
Note: Specifying a time pattern can help you make use of all operatories when scheduling appointments and maximize your productivity.
Click OK.
Motivational Note - A personal note that you want to have print on continuing care cards of this type for this patient.
Note: To check the spelling of the note text, click the Check Spelling button (this button is available only if a certain preference setting is enabled).
Click OK.
If the patient's continuing care settings for this type differ from the general continuing care settings for this type, a message appears and asks if you want to update the patient's defaults for this continuing care type.
Do one of the following:
To save the custom settings as patient overrides, click Yes.
To not save the custom settings as patient overrides, click No.
