Deleting treatment

In Chart, you can delete a completed, treatment-planned, or existing procedure that was posted incorrectly if it is not associated with a claim and as long as it has not been moved to history (when closing a month).

Notes:

To view an existing, planned, or completed procedure before deleting it, the following security rights are required, depending on the status of that procedure: "Existing Procedures, Edit" (to view existing treatment), "Treatment Plan, Edit" (to view planned treatment), or "Completed Procedures, Edit" (to view completed treatment). Then, to delete the procedure, one of the following security right is required, depending on the status of that procedure: "Existing Procedures, Delete" (to delete existing treatment), "Treatment Plan, Delete" (to delete planned treatment), or "Completed Procedures, Delete" (to delete completed treatment).

To quickly delete one or more existing or planned procedures by clicking a button, one or both of the following security right are required, depending on the statuses of the selected procedures: "Existing Procedures, Delete" (to delete existing treatment) and/or "Treatment Plan, Delete" (to delete planned treatment).

To delete treatment

With a patient selected in Chart, on the Progress Notes panel, do any of the following as needed:

To view and then delete an existing, planned, or completed procedure, do the following:

Double-click an existing, existing-other, treatment-planned, or completed procedure.

Note: If the procedure that you want to delete has been posted but is not listed on the Progress Notes panel, verify that the correct status view option has been selected for the progress notes.

If applicable, do one of the following:

For existing treatment:

If the Password - Existing Procedures, Edit dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Existing Procedures, Edit" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Existing Procedures, Edit" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Existing Procedures, Edit" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can edit an existing procedure this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Existing Procedures, Edit" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can edit an existing procedure this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Existing Procedures, Edit dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

For planned treatment:

If the Password - Treatment Plan, Edit dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Treatment Plan, Edit" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Treatment Plan, Edit" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Treatment Plan, Edit" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can edit a planned procedure this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Treatment Plan, Edit" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can edit a planned procedure this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Treatment Plan, Edit dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

For completed treatment:

If the Password - Completed Procedure, Edit dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Completed Procedure, Edit" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Completed Procedure, Edit" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Completed Procedure, Edit" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can edit a completed procedure this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Completed Procedure, Edit" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can edit a completed procedure this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Completed Procedure, Edit dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

The Edit or Delete Procedure dialog box appears.

Click Delete.

If applicable, do one of the following:

For existing treatment:

If the Password - Existing Procedures, Delete dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Existing Procedures, Delete" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Existing Procedures, Delete" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Existing Procedures, Delete" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete an existing procedure this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Existing Procedures, Delete" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete an existing procedure this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

For planned treatment:

If the Password - Treatment Plan, Delete dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Treatment Plan, Delete" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Treatment Plan, Delete" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Treatment Plan, Delete" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete a planned procedure this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Treatment Plan, Delete" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete a planned procedure this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Treatment Plan, Delete dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

For completed treatment:

If the Password - Completed Procedure, Delete dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Completed Procedure, Delete" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Completed Procedure, Delete" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Completed Procedure, Delete" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete a completed procedure this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Completed Procedure, Delete" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete a completed procedure this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Completed Procedure, Delete dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

A confirmation message appears.

Note: If an implantable device is attached to the procedure, the message indicates that the procedure and device will no longer be linked if you delete the procedure.

Click OK.

If this is the only remaining procedure that is associated with a referral, a message appears, asking if you want to delete the referral as well. Click Yes to delete the procedure and the referral or No to delete only the procedure.

To quickly delete one or more existing or planned procedures by clicking a button, do the following:

Select one or more existing, existing-other, or treatment-planned procedures.

Notes:

If the procedures that you want to delete have been posted but are not listed on the Progress Notes panel, verify that the correct status view option has been selected for the progress notes.

It is possible to also select completed procedures, conditions, and diagnoses, but only the selected existing procedures, existing-other procedures, treatment-planned procedures, conditions, and diagnoses will be deleted.

To select multiple procedures so you can delete them simultaneously, click a procedure, and then, while pressing the Ctrl key, click the other desired procedures. To select a range of adjacent procedures, click the first procedure of the desired range of procedures, and then, while pressing the Shift key, click the last procedure of the desired range of procedures.

Click the Delete button .

If you are deleting existing treatment:

If the Password - Existing Procedures, Delete dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Existing Procedures, Delete" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Existing Procedures, Delete" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Existing Procedures, Delete" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete existing procedures this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Existing Procedures, Delete" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete existing procedures this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Existing Procedures, Delete dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If you are deleting planned treatment:

If the Password - Treatment Plan, Delete dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Treatment Plan, Delete" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Treatment Plan, Delete" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Treatment Plan, Delete" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete planned procedures this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Treatment Plan, Delete" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete planned procedures this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Treatment Plan, Delete dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If you are also deleting conditions and/or diagnoses:

If the Password - Conditions/Diagnosis, Delete dialog box appears, user verification has been assigned to the "Conditions/Diagnosis, Delete" task. Do one of the following:

If your user account has been granted the "Conditions/Diagnosis, Delete" security right, enter your credentials in the User ID and Password boxes, and then click OK.

If your user account has not been granted the "Conditions/Diagnosis, Delete" security right, have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete conditions and/or diagnoses this one time. The overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If a message appears, informing you that you do not have rights to this operation, your user account has not been granted the "Conditions/Diagnosis, Delete" security right. To have a user with permission temporarily override this restriction so you can delete conditions and/or diagnoses this one time, do the following:

On the message, click Yes.

In the Password - Conditions/Diagnosis, Delete dialog box, the overriding user enters his or her credentials in the User ID and Password boxes and then clicks OK.

If any of the selected procedures are not treatment-planned, existing, or existing-other, a message appears, informing you that only the existing procedures, existing-other procedures, planned procedures, conditions, and diagnoses will be deleted. Click OK.

A confirmation message appears.

Note: If an implantable device is attached to any procedures, the message indicates that the procedures and devices will no longer be linked if you delete the procedures.

Click OK.

If any of the procedures are the only remaining procedures that are associated with referrals, a message appears, asking if you want to delete the referrals as well. Click Yes to delete the procedures and the referrals or No to delete only the procedures.
