Connecting to a prescription drug monitoring program

One benefit of using Dentrix Ascend ePrescribe is that you can pull reports from your state's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). States maintain these databases, which list all of the prescriptions for controlled substances. In many states, providers are supposed to check the PDMP before writing a patient a prescription for a controlled substance.

Dentrix Ascend ePrescribe can connect to the PDMP in the following states:

To enable PDMP

  1. You contact a Dentrix Ascend support technician.

  2. The support technician retrieves the Clinic ID for each location (legal business entity) that you want to connect to the PDMP.

  3. You provide the support technician with the first name, last name, and email address of a contact person. If your organization has multiple locations, this contact person might be someone at a central office.

  4. The support technician creates a DoseSpot ticket with the information gathered and a note that you want PDMP.

  5. A DoseSpot agent sends an email to the contact person specified.

  6. The contact person completes the Appriss registration process. Appriss is the company that manages the PDMP integration.

Note: Some states might require a fee to register for access to the PDMP.

  7. After the registration is complete, you contact a Dentrix Ascend support technician.

  8. The support technician specifies the applicable role in the ePrescribe administration console.

To view a patient's PDMP data

For each location in your organization that is registered to access the PDMP, when you open the Electronic Prescriptions page for a patient. If the request for data from the PDMP is successful, the patient's Narx scores appear in the patient information box (the upper-left box). The Narx scores help gauge the patient's potential substance risks. Also, if a full report is available, to view the report, click View Report.
