The Data Chart overview

The Data Chart shows the status of the patient's periodontal health and is used to record and display all periodontal measurements during a periodontal exam.

The Data Chart is organized as a graph. Tooth numbers run along the top and the bottom of the chart and correspond to the maxillary and mandibular arches respectively. The periodontal labels for each type of data associated with each tooth extend down the left side of the chart.

Periodontal labels

The abbreviations used in the text column include:

·        F or L - Indicates whether you are on the facial or lingual side of the tooth.

·        PD (Probing Depth) - Indicates the depth of the periodontal pocket in millimeters.

·        GM (Gingival Margin) - Indicates the gingival margin (recession) measurement in millimeters.

·        CAL (Clinical Attachment Level) - Indicates the CAL measurement in millimeters.

·        MGJ (Mucogingival Junction) - Indicates the MGJ measurement in millimeters.

·        FG (Furcation Grade) - Indicates the furcation involvement for the tooth.

·        Bld (Bleeding) - A red oval in this row indicates a bleeding point.

·        Sup (Suppuration) - A yellow oval indicates an infection point.

·        PMB (Plaque, Mobility, and Bone Loss) - Indicates plaque, mobility, and bone loss measurements specific to the tooth.

There are two sections of periodontal data for each tooth. The section closest to the tooth number represents the facial side of the tooth, while the section closer to the middle of the screen represents the lingual side of the tooth.

You can measure three sites per side of each tooth:

·        Distal

·        Central

·        Mesial

So, there are six possible measurement sites for each tooth:

·        Facial/Distal

·        Facial/Central

·        Facial/Mesial

·        Lingual/Distal

·        Lingual/Central

·        Lingual/Mesial

When you open the Data Chart, some numbers may already be displayed. These numbers represent data values that were saved in a previous exam. You can enter new measurements over these numbers when you create a new exam.

The numbers on the Data Chart are color-coded to show the severity of the conditions indicated by the measurements. For example, by default, probing depths 4 mm and deeper are indicated with a red number, while probing depths less than 4 mm are indicated with a white number.

The numbers are also color-coded to indicate whether they are from the current exam or a previous one. Numbers from a previous exam are gray and dark red instead of white and bright red.

Note: You can customize the Perio Chart by changing these color settings.
