Setting up the Carestream software bridge

Dentrix Imaging supports acquiring intraoral, extraoral, and CBCT images from the Carestream software on computers running the Windows operating system. You must install the Carestream software on each computer that uses the software bridge.

Notes:

·        Configure all acquisition devices with the Carestream software on each computer that you will use to acquire images using the Carestream software bridge.

·        Before installing any imaging devices, you must install the acquisition agent application on each computer that you will use to acquire images using the software bridge. Please refer to Setting up the acquisition agent for instructions on downloading and installing the acquisition agent.

·        Configure the acquisition agent to support DICOM files so CBCT acquisition is functional.

Recommended version

·        Carestream Imaging software v8.0.15 or later

Minimum version

·        Carestream Imaging software v8.0.15 or later

Configuring the Carestream software bridge

Note: You must the configure the acquisition agent with a Patients path. Currently, the software bridge does not work with the previous database, so it is recommended that you set up a new Patients Path for the software bridge.

To configure the Carestream software bridge

1.   In the system tray, right-click the Acquisition Agent icon, and then click Preferences.

2.   Click the Software Bridge tab.

3.   Enter the Patients Path.

Note: If you plan to access the images accessed by more than one computer, set the Patients Path folder to a network location that is accessible by all computers. By default, the folder location is set to the computer's local C: drive.

4.   To acquire 3D volumes, click the DICOM tab, and then do the following:

·        Select Compress DICOM Volumes.

·        Select Cache DICOM Volumes.

·        Under Cache folder, specify the folder as shared ensuring enough storage space that each cache can use the same cache.

Testing

The Carestream software bridge is now functional and ready to acquire images.

To acquire a test image

1.   In the Imaging Procedures list, click Bitewing Single Image.

2.   In the tooth selection chart, click the teeth you want to image.

3.   In the Acquisition method for this imaging exam menu, click Carestream Imaging, and then click Proceed with Acquisition.

Note: If you are acquiring for a 3D exam, the Acquire volume snapshot only checkbox must be selected so a 2D image of the volume instead of the full volume will be transferred. The 2D image is linked to the full volume in the Carestream software.

4.   Acquire an image in the Carestream software, and then close the Carestream imaging software.

The captured image appears in Dentrix Imaging automatically.

Note: If you are acquiring a 3D volume, you must wait for the volume to finish being constructed in Carestream before closing the application; otherwise, the volume will not be transferred to Dentrix Imaging.
